Obituary for Sabine Krolak-Schwerdt (20.12.1958-12.12.2017)
On 12 December 2017 Professor Sabine Krolak-Schwerdt passed away. She was 58 years old. Since 2008 Krolak-Schwerdt had a personal chair in Educational Measurement at the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education, University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg and since 2015 she served as founding president of the European Association for Data Science (EuADS). In addition she was a member of the board oft he GfKl Data Science Society and founded as first conference chair (July 2013, Luxemburg) the European Conference on Data Analysis (ECDA); video of ECDA2013.
1986 she received her Diploma in Psychology, 1990 PhD (Dr. phil.) at the Saarland University with the dissertation: „Modelle der dreimodalen Faktorenanalyse“ [Models of three-mode factor analysis] and 2000 Habilitation in Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy, Saarland University with the dissertation „Kategorien des Person-gedächtnisses. Einfluss von Stimulusmerkmalen und Verarbeitungszielen auf ihr Aktivierung“ [Categories of person memory. Influence of stimulus attributes and processing goals on category activation] and received the venia legendi in psychology.
2007 Professor (W3 position, Chair) in Educational Assessment at the School of Educational and Social Sciences, Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Germany. 2008 offer of the Professorship in Psychological Methods (Chair) at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Vienna (declined).
Sabine Krolak-Schwerdt has published more than 100 scientific papers, her grant proposals received funding by the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR). Professor Krolak-Schwerdt was an outstanding and international recognised scholar.
We mourn our endearing colleague Sabine. We will miss her. We hope that we can successfully continue and develop her legacy of the European Association for Data Science (EuADS) and the European Conferences on Data Analysis (ECDA).
