The European Association for Data Science (EuADS) invites to the European Data Science Conference (EDSC),that will take place from November 07-08, 2016 at the Neumünster Abbey Cultural Exchange Center in Luxembourg-Grund. CONFERENCE PROGRAM The European Data Science Conference is the inaugural conference of the European Association for Data Science and aims to provide a setting for fostering communication among all stakeholders of Data Science in Europe. The major objective is to bring together renowned experts and young scientists from disciplines that are focusedon the acquisition and analysis of (big) empirical data, representatives from industry and politics as well as other stakeholders from the field of Data Science. Numerous invited experts from these areas will contribute to the conference. One of the primary aims of the conference is to initiate and foster discussion on relevant themes in Data Science that are of interest to various empirical disciplines but simultaneously have unsolved problems. CONFERENCE TOPICS From an in-depth analysis of methodological approaches and unsolved problems across empirical disciplines, the conference focuses on the following topics which are of actual concern in science and society: 1. The question of trust, transparency and provenance of data including where data come from and by which mechanisms trust in data might be achieved. 2. Legal aspects of Data Science such as data protection, data privacy and data access, among others. 3. The question how data scientists might navigate the complex chain from raw data to actionable outputs and how they might be supported by appropriate tools. 4. The role of Data Science in Medicine and Healthcare with a specific focus on Open medical data and personalized Medicine. 5. The question of what makes Data Science different from other fields such as statistics and how to define the methodological substance of the field. The European Data Science Conference consists of selected plenary talks, symposia, workshops and panel discussions on the five topics outlined above and an opening talk for the interested public. Registrations will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis for applicants coming from disciplines that are involved in the acquisition and analysis of data in science and industry. Young scientists (with or without PhD) are asked to submit a short proposal, maximum one page, explaining their interest in Data Science and briefly describing their work or future planning in this domain. Deadline for submission is September 15, 2016. All submissions will undergo a review process by members of the scientific program committee. Participation is free of charge.
