German Classification Society
| The German Classification Society / Gesellschaft für Klassifikation (GfKl) was founded in 1977 to develop research activities related to the classification and ordering of data, to the processing of statistical or conceptual information, and to the construction of databases and information (retrieval) systems. It was one of the objectives to foster the exchange of methods and the personal contacts between different disciplines as well as to promote the education in this domain. |

The 36th Annual Conference of the German Classification Society - Gesellschaft für Klassifikation (GfKl), a member of the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS), focuses on advances in data analysis, machine learning and knowledge discovery.

The scientific program includes sessions with invited talks and contributed presentations from a broad range of topics in the following areas:
Data Analysis and Statistics
Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery
Data Analysis in Marketing
Data Analysis in Finance
Data Analysis in Biostatistics and Bioinformatics
Data Analysis in Interdisciplinary Domains, including archaeology, astronomy, education, linguistics, musicology, natural sciences, psychology and social sciences
Special emphasis is laid on interdisciplinary research and the interaction between theory and practice.
The conference language is English.
Participants interested in presenting a talk are invited to submit an abstract. All abstracts will undergo a review process. Accepted abstracts will appear in the preconference volume.
After the presentations at the conference, the authors can submit full papers to the postconference proceedings volume. Full papers will be reviewed by at least two members of the program committee and successful contributions will be published in the post-conference proceedings in the Springer series Studies in Classification, Data Analysis, and Knowledge Organization.
The German Classification Society grants an award for the best paper.
GfKl 2012 also incorporates a Workshop on Library and Information Science (LIS'2012), soliciting contributions on the role of classification and data analysis in this domain.

In 2011 a Joint Conference of the German Classification Society (GfKl), with the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS) as an international partner, and the German Association for Pattern Recognition (DAGM) will take place in Frankfurt am Main. The title of this conference will be ?Algorithms from & for Nature and Life?.
This conference will be preceded by a one-day Symposium of the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS), which will feature keynote addresses by Gilles Celeux and Douglas Steinley, a President?s invited session, and a Presidential address by IFCS President Geoff McLachlan.
