ECDA 2019

Following previous editions in Luxembourg (2013), Bremen (2014), Colchester (2015), Wroclaw (2017) and Paderborn (2018) the European Conference on Data Analysis (ECDA) will take place in Bayreuth, Germany, 18th – 20th of March, 2019. It will be located and hosted by the University of Bayreuth.

ECDA was launched in 2013 and emerged from the annual conference of the German Classification Society (GfKl). It is supported by the European Association for Data Science (EuADS), the International Association for Statistical Computing (IASC), the German Computer Science Society (GI), as well as other European classification societies (British Classification Society (BCS), Section on Classification and Data Analysis of the Polish Statistical Association (SKAD), Classification and Data Analysis Group of the Italian Statistical Society (CLADAG), Japanese Classification Society (JCS)). ECDA 2019 includes the 43nd Annual Meeting of the GFKl Data Science Society.

ECDA 2019 will be hosted by the University of Bayreuth, an university in scenic northern Bavaria capable of attracting gifted students and first class researchers. The strength of the subject areas taught by its faculties and the strategically chosen interdisciplinary research priorities are only few of the factors leading to the universities outstanding reputation and attractiveness for gifted students and first class researchers. Also, an important part of the universities vision is the facilitation of dialogue between science and society by cooperating with other universities, colleges and non-universitary research institutes in all kinds of fields of research.

With this in mind, ECDA 2019 will pay special emphasis on interdisciplinary research and the interaction of theory and practice. The scientific programme of the conference will include sessions with invited talks and contributed presentations covering a broad range of topics.

CONNECTED CONFERENCES:

GPSDAA 2019 (BAYREUTH)

One day before the ECDA2019, on March 17, 2019, the 5th German-Polish Symposium on Data Analysis and Applications will take place in the RW I building of the University of Bayreuth with 13 additional lectures on current developments in data science by well-known German and Polish researchers. The symposium follows the previous symposia in Aachen, Krakow, Dresden and Wroclaw and will focus on an analysis of models and data that arise from repeated observations to individual ones of individuals, households or firms. It emphasizes a mathematical and statistical basis but also demonstrates substantive applications from the social sciences. Selected contributions from the symposium are published in the Archives of Data Science. If you want to participate please contact the seminar organizers Prof. Daniel Baier (daniel.baier@uni-bayreuth.de) and/or Prof. Jozef Pociecha (jozef.pociecha@uek.krakow.pl).

DAGSTAT 2019 (MUNICH)

The ECDA2019 is closely connected to the DAGStat 2019 in Munich which takes places directly after the conference in Bayreuth. According to the motto „Statistics under one umbrella“ contributions of  fourteen societies that form the DAGStat (including GfKl) will be included in the conference program. The plenary presentations will address current topics which are of interest for statisticians of all different areas of application. Munich is near to Bayreuth so a visit of both – closely connected – conferences can be recommended.
